World Sailfish Championship

Beautiful weather and a great town awaited the 700 anglers who ventured to Key West for the “Superbowl of Sailfish Tournaments”. With $1,268,000 on the line, you can imagine the anticipation the approximately 700 anglers that were in attendance.

Day one results were Owl’s Nest with Capt. Matty Tambor edging out the Jichi with Capt. Ricky Linder, both with 9 fish. Third place for the day went to the Que Mas with Capt. Travis Butters who ended up with 7 releases.

On day two a different set of names rose to the top. Viking 50 run by Ryan Higgins was the top boat for the day with 8 releases, followed by Just Ducky with Capt. Todd McQueen with 7. Third place for the day was the Excavotor also with 7 releases. In the overall standings the Jichi was on top with 13 releases and the Miss Costa was in second with 12.

On day three many boats were in striking range, so it really boiled down to who had a strong finish. The top 3 boats for the day were Vitamin Sea Too with 8 for the day, followed by Rockstar with 6 and Sweet Release with 5. When the smoke cleared the top 10 were as follows:

2. Jichi - 15
3. Vitamin Sea Too - 15
4. Que Mas - 13
5. Owl’s Nest - 13
6. Miss Costa - 13
7. Freedom - 12
8. Viking 50 - 11
9. Just Ducky - 10
10. Ovation - 10

This was a great finish to our South Florida Sailfish circuit and now we look forward to a little time in the Bahamas.
